Another thing on this 4300 -- Tie rod problem

Looking at the tractor and the manual, it appears that the tie-rod on the right side front of the tractor has backed out of where it is supposed to be. The rod has a nut threaded on it, and on the left side of the tractor, the nut is right against the bushing. On the right side, the nut is in the middle point on the rod, with another inch of threaded rod exposed before the bushing. So there is about twice as much threaded rod exposed on the right than on the left. Is this some kind of a problem? Anyone know what would cause it, or how to fix it? Thanks!

It sounds like you're talking about the lock nut (or jam nut) on the tie rod. I would think that your owner's manual would tell how to adjust the toe-in. Without seeing it, I wouldn't know whether the lock nut has backed off or whether the tie rod has backed off and gotten out of adjustment. The way to find out is to park the tractor with the front wheels pointing straight ahead and measure the distance between the beads at the front of the tires, hub level, then do the same at the rear of the tires. On my Kubota the manual calls for the front measurement to be 1 to 5 mm less than the rear measurement. If it isn't, then you need to turn the adjusting sleeve (or tie rod itself - I don't know which the John Deere has) to get the proper adjustment, then tighten that lock nut down. ....
